Will I incur Any Fee If I Fail To Renew Godaddy Domain After Expiration And Grace Period?

Godaddy is one of the major and widely known Domain name registrar out there on the internet.

They are also into web hosting and other services, but our studies show that webmasters engage Godaddy more on domain name registration than web hosting for the reasons best known to them.

Now going by the topic of the day, we understand that some of you might have registered a domain name with Godaddy and maybe you ordinarily want to know what exactly will happen when your domain name expires and you fail to renew it, especially on whether you will incur any fee for failure to renew.

While some of you that have gotten their Godaddy domain expired and have received Goddaddy’s 12 days grace renewal period mail that goes like this;

“PLEASE NOTE: if you do not renew your domain(s) during the 12-day renewal grace period, you may incur a fee of $80.00 in addition to the domain renewal fee….”

Undoubtedly, that message appears quite disturbing especially if it was your first time of seeing it, and the first thing that goes into the mind of many that got domain name with Godadday is on why Godaddy will charge them such an amount for failing to renew their domain, and what if they are no longer interested in the domain, will Godaddy still go ahead to charge their payment method attached to their Godadday account such an amount?

Now, here is the main deal; Godaddy normally gives their customers the ability to set their purchased domain with them on auto renewal or manual renewal.

By default, domain name purchased from Godaddy are set to automatically renew after expiration date, but there are sometimes that you might not want that to happen and therefore you decided to set the domain renewal to manual.

When you have set your domain name to manual renewal, and the domain name expires, that is mostly the time you receive the message above from Godaddy.

If you are faint hearted individual, the moment you get that message from Godaddy, you will tremble and always be tempted to quickly renew your domain.

But what if you are no longer interested in the domain and still get that disturbing message, would you still go ahead to renew the domain that you no longer need because of fear of incurring the $80.00 on condition?

Maybe you miss-represented such mail from GoDaddy and that is why you are scared of getting billed even in the domain name that you are no longer interested on and that is exactly what is sending that shock wave of fear down your spine whenever you receive such mails or similar ones from Godaddy.

Of course, Godaddy knows exactly well on how to put their customers on high jump in order to lure them to keep on patronizing them…good business idea if you might ask me!

This is what you should know about such mail from GoDaddy; GoDaddy did not out rightly tell you that after the 12 days grace period that you will be billed with $80 for failing to renew but here are the 2 things that are involved, when you fail to renew GoDaddy domain after the 12 days expiration date.

Firstly is that after the expiration of the 12 days grace period given to you by Godaddy and you did not renew the domain within those periods, Godaddy will move the domain for redemption.

At this point if you still need the domain and want to get it back from redemption that is only when you will incur additional fee of $80.

Secondly is that, if you no longer need the domain and you did nothing or did not indicate that you want it, even after it entered redemption period, the domain will die a natural death (pass through the stages that it will be made available to the public again) and you will not incur any charges.

We believed that we have been able to allay your fears on whether you would incur additional fee if you fail to renew your Godaddy domain, which you are no longer interested in.
